The Nutty Professor (1996)

Directed by Tom Shadyac, Sherman Klump is an incredibly fat and good-hearted man. He is a college professor on the verge of a breakthrough in DNA restructuring when he meets an admirer of his, named Carla, who is a teacher new to Klump’s college. He is enamored of her, but is frustrated by his tremendous bulk. He then decides to test a formula on which he’s been working on himself. The special chemical that turns him into the slim but obnoxious Buddy Love and complications.

I Love You Phillip Morris (2009)

Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, Based on a true story, Steven Russell is married to Debbie, and a member of the local police force when a car accident provokes a dramatic reassessment of his life. Steven becomes open about his homosexuality and decides to live life to the fullest – even if it means breaking the law. Steve is bored with his bland lifestyle, He turns to cons and fraud as a means of shaking things up. Before long, Russell’s criminal antics have landed him behind bars, where he encounters the charismatic Phillip Morris. Smitten, Russell devotes his entire life to being with Morris regardless of the consequences – which could well include a life sentence.

( The end of the movie explains that the real-life Phillip Morris was released from jail in 2006, but Steven is still imprisoned, on 23-hour lockup, only having one free hour a day to shower and exercise).
