Jack Reacher (2012)

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: You got the wrong guy. Then he says: Get Reacher for me. And sure enough, ex-military investigator Jack Reacher is coming. He knows this shooter-a trained military sniper who never should have missed a shot. Reacher is certain something is not right-and soon the slam-dunk case explodes.

The Road (2009)

Directed by John Hillcoat, An epic post-apocalyptic tale of the survival of a father and his young son as they journey across a barren America that was destroyed by a mysterious cataclysm. It imagines a future in which men are pushed to the worst and the best that they are capable of — a future in which a father and his son are sustained by love. The sky is dark. Their destination is the warmer south, although they don’t know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing: just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless cannibalistic bands that stalk the road.

Open Range (2003)

Directed by Kevin Costner, A former gunslinger is forced to take up arms again when he and his cattle crew are threatened by a corrupt lawman, Spearman, Charley, Mose and “Button” freegraze their cattle across the vast prairies of the West, sharing a friendship forged by a steadfast code of honor and living a life unencumbered by civilization. When their wayward herd forces them near the small town of Harmonville, the cowboys encounter a corrupt Sheriff and kingpin rancher who govern the territory through fear, tyranny and violence. Boss and Charley find themselves inextricably drawn towards the inevitable showdown as they are forced to defend the freedom and values of a lifestyle that is all too quickly vanishing.

Gods and Generals (2003)

Directed by Ronald F. Maxwell, Based on a true story, Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson as he leads the Confederacy to great success against the Union from 1861 to 1863, the Civil War which examines the early days of the conflict through the experiences of three men. Col. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain left behind a quiet life and a career as a college professor to become one of the Union’s greatest military minds. Gen. Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson was, like Chamberlain, a man of great religious faith who served in the defense of the Confederacy. And Gen. Robert E. Lee, who led the Confederate army, was a man who was forced to choose between his loyalty to the United States and his love of the Southern states.

To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)

Directed by Robert Mulligan, Atticus Finch is a lawyer in a racially divided Alabama town in the 1930s. He agrees to defend a young black man who is accused of raping a white woman. Many of the townspeople try to get Atticus to pull out of the trial, but he decides to go ahead. How will the trial turn out – and will it change any of the racial tension in the town ?
